FAQ

What is Biodiesel?

Biodiesel is the name of a green, clean burning alternative diesel, the original diesel, produced from renewable resources. Pure biodiesel (also called B100) contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend. It can be used in compression-ignition (diesel) engines with little or no modifications. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, almost odourless and essentially free of sulphur and aromatics.

Can I Use Biodiesel In Any Diesel Engine?

Yes, nearly all diesel engines can use biodiesel without any modification. Our fuel contains additives to ensure it is compatible with most diesel engine vehicles in use (including in winter). Biodiesel is supported by many major vehicle and engine manufacturers including VW, Jeep, Skoda, Volvo, Scania, MAN and Iveco. We regularly supply biodiesel to customers with new vehicles including those with high pressure computerised fuel systems (CDI, TDI, TDCI, HDI, D4D etc). Our biodiesel conforms to the EN14214 standard and for extra piece of mind we hold full product liability insurance.

Is Biodiesel the same thing as raw vegetable oil?

No! Fuel-grade biodiesel must be produced to a very high quality specification (EU EN 14214 Standard for diesel fuel) Raw vegetable oil cannot meet biodiesel fuel specifications, it is not a motor fuel.

What is the Chemistry of Bio Diesel?

Bio diesel is defined as mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats. Typical used cooking oil uses Rape Seed Oil which has a carbon molecule length of 32 while diesel fuel requires a carbon chain of 12 in length for use in diesel engines; the transesterification process breaks this down to the optimum length chain. Biodiesel refers to the pure fuel before blending with diesel fuel. Biodiesel blends are denoted as, “BXX” with “XX” representing the percentage of biodiesel contained in the blend (i.e.: B20 is 20% bio diesel, 80% petroleum diesel).

Why should I use Indian Bio-Energy’ biodiesel?

Biodiesel is better for the environment because it is made from renewable resources and has lower emissions compared to petroleum diesel. Indian Bio-Energy recycles used cooking oil and turns it into biodiesel (B100). No new oil or specifically grown crop is used to make Indian Bio-Energy’ biodiesel.

Indian Bio-Energy’ biodiesel is less toxic than table salt and biodegrades as fast as sugar. It is safer to handle than petroleum diesel and has no discernable odour. It is made from renewable resources such as Oil Seed Rape, its use decreases our dependence on petroleum (non renewable) oil.

Indian Bio-Energy’ Bio Diesel engine performance?

Biodiesel is actually good for your engine. Unlike conventional diesel, biodiesel replenishes the lubricity, reducing engine problems and enhancing the life and efficiency of your motor. Bio diesel’s natural cleaning properties will also help to clean injectors, fuel lines, pumps and tanks, meaning that the overall maintenance costs are reduced.

Is Biodiesel safe to handle and store?

Yes, B100 Biodiesel is less toxic than salt and more bio-degradable than sugar making it an excellent fuel for sensitive areas such as near rivers, canals, farmland and nature reserves. Biodiesel can be stored in unlimited quantities without a specific permit.

Do I need to modify my vehicle to run on Biodiesel?

No, Our standard biodiesel conforms to the EN14214 standard and can be used in almost all vehicles without any modifications. Biodiesel is a great solvent and lubricant and will clean out any sediment in your fuel tank deposited by normal diesel leaving you with a clean fuel system. When you first switch to biodiesel we recommend changing your fuel filter after the first 500 miles, normally we can do this for you…just ask.

Can I still use normal diesel too?

Yes, Biodiesel and normal diesel can be mixed in any percentage. If you have any queries please contact us.

Is It Legal To Use Biodiesel On The Road?

Yes, Indian Bio-Energy is registered with the HMRC as a manufacturer and supplier of biodiesel. We pay the road fuel duty required by law on your behalf just like a normal filling station. If you need fuel for off-road use we can supply road duty free fuel but we have to be satisfied that your stated use is accurate and we may ask for proof.

Do You Deliver?

Yes, Indian Bio-Energy deliver fuel to customers across the UK mainland. We can deliver in 205 litre drums, 1,000 litre pallet tanks (IBC) or in bulk. Most deliveries can be made next business day. Contact us with your post code for a quote.

Points to Note . . .

  • If your vehicle is pre 1994, your fuel pipes may be made of rubber which, over time, can be broken down by Biodiesel use. You may, therefore, need to change the pipes to plastic pipes (all modern diesel vehicles are fitted with plastic pipes as standard).
  • Only fuel supplied in winter is protected against frost, if you buy from us in summer and require frost protection please tell us when ordering.
